CONDOLENCES

Last night (22nd Jan) was a night of grief, especially to Johorian when His Royal Highness the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Mahmud Iskandar al-haj ibn Almarhum Sultan Ismail passed away at 1917 (Malaysia time) in Hospital Pakar Puteri, Johor Baharu. His Majesty died in the aged of 77years old. PUTERA MIC Johore wishes to extend its condolences to the Johor royal family on the death of the Sultan who was loved by the people.

817 Tamil School Pupils Score 7A's In UPSR

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said 817 Tamil school students scored 7A's in this year's Primary School Evaluation Test (UPSR) examination, reflecting the growing importance placed by parents on their children's education.

While congratulating the students, he said the number of 7A scorers this year was higher compared to 725 students last year.

"There is an increase of 92 students this year who scored 7A's and I am very happy that the numbers have been increasing over the years," he said in a statement here TUesday.

He attributed the students' success to the hard work put in by them and their parents as well as the strategies implemented by the MIC through the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED).

This included printing and distribution of UPSR Revision books to Tamil school students every year.

The books were compiled by teachers, headmasters and coordinators of Tamil schools and was financed by MIED.

Samy Vellu said the MIED would reward the 817 students for their excellent performance.

"They are our role models and I believe that they can motivate other students next year to achieve excellent results," he said, adding that he hoped the number of students from Tamil schools scoring 7A's next year would surpass the 1,000 mark.

He said the MIC would continue to gauge the feedback from Tamil school teachers and headmasters on more ways to improve the academic achievements of the students.

MIC Vice-President and Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam also congratulated the students and hoped their success would spur more students to excel in their examinations.

The first ever Johore state PUTERA MIC Convention was held at Hotel Good Hope Johor Bahru on the 1st of August 2009.. The Convention was graced by Datuk K.S. Balakrishnan. There are nearly 50 members who joined the event.

Our Aim, Objectives and Strategies

AIM

To enlist young Malaysian Indians between the ages 18 to 30, to harness their energies towards socio-political action through Putera MIC, a network of young Malaysian Indians.

OBJECTIVES

To establish a strong network among community leaders to identify potential young people who can be enlisted into the Putera MIC.
To organize leadership workshops to groom young Malaysian Indian leaders for socio-political action.
To create a network amongst young graduates and professionals and provide advice on career development and employment opportunities.
To encourage all MIED loan recipients, AIMST and TAFE students and alumni to play an active role in community upliftment through Putera MIC.

STRATEGIES

An official launch of the Putera MIC, A Network of Young Malaysian Indians will be organized.
A nation wide recruitment campaign to promote Putera MIC will be organized in 2007 at the State and Divisional levels.
Brochures will be printed and distributed to all divisions to enlist their involvement in the recruitment of Putera members.
The formation of Putera will be highlighted in the conventional and electronic mass media and through other modes attractive to the targeted age group.

Many a time I have been posed with a question ‘Why would anyone want to join PUTERA MIC?’. This question was not only posed by MIC members, this question was also posed to me from some of my friends who are not so friendly to MIC.

I think I would rather put it in record some of the reasons which should be shared amongst my other PUTERA MIC brothers so that they to can promote and explain to all why PUTERA MIC should be their option.

Like how Superstar Rajini Kanth has said once in his movie, life is divided into 8. Thus let me give you 8 reasons – WHY YOU SHOULD BE PART OF PUTERA MIC

1. Youth and our youngsters are the future leaders. PUTERA MIC will provide a platform for these young leaders to learn and enhance leadership-skills and people-manage skills.

2. PUTERA MIC will be a platform for varsity and college student to come together and share their views and ideas as well as to discuss any problems faced by the Indian Students in varsity or college. Thus, PUTERA MIC is platform for discussion and solution-finding.

3. PUTERA MIC could help the varsity or the college students to a get a placement for internship. PUTERA MIC will also organize programmes, workshop and career fair to help and guide final year’s students in interview, resume writing and many other activities to expose the student with the real working environment.

4. PUTERA MIC member are mostly graduates thus provides a network of professional whom can provide an effective advice and guidance on career development and employment opportunities. Ultimately, PUTERA MIC could help students or jobless graduate to secure a job.

5. PUTERA MIC provides an exposure and information on socio-political situation of our community. As such PUTERA MIC provides an opportunity for our youngsters to contribute in the process of upliftment our community’s overall status.

6. PUTERA MIC will introduce programmes to guide and facilitate Indian youths to excel in Education, ICT, Business and Entrepreneurial, as well as social-economic related programmes and opportunities.

7. PUTERA MIC could provide an avenue for ‘right political awareness’ especially to the youngsters as many of them are shying away from playing an active role in public life or civil society. On the other hand, political awareness/maturity is crucial to instill patriotism and nationalism.

8. PUTERA MIC will be organizing many programmes from time to time. All these programmes are meant to benefit PUTERA MIC members in many ways. From sports to intellectual related activities programmes will be conducted through out the year. As such it is also an avenue for socializing in a very positive, constructive and productive way.

I can go on and on giving many more reasons why you should join us and be part of this movement. You could also come and help us to help our brothers and sisters who are still in their primary and secondary education; you can be their mentor and guide them to be as successful as you are or probably much more successful than you are.

It is always said you can judge the communities progress based on the number or educated people in the country. Lets make the numbers.

SCIENCE FAIR FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

SFYC is a programme specifically designed with Tamil School students in mind, and only they may compete in the Fairs. However, the Fairs are open to the general public who are invited – with their families – to view students’ projects and talk to participants. Those who are scientifically inclined may also volunteer as project guides, judges, and coordinators.

Started in 2004, SFYC has been very succesfull and has been increasing in participation up to national level.

In 2009, around 300 teams took part in the Fair. And, in addition to the national and state level fairs, a significant number of Tamil Schools, too, organized school level fairs so a larger number of students could enjoy the Fair’s benefits.

On 23rd of May 2009, Putera Mic Johore organized Johor state level Science Fair For Young Children(SFYC) 2009 which took place at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM),Batu Pahat, Johor.

This is a fair for the young primary tamil school students aroundJohore where the objective of this event is to develop interest among young indian students towards science and technology. Gradually, the students also will learn how to conduct,exhibit and explain the experiments that they have carried out. During the process of learning, the students will also develop the skills of retrieving information from the internet. This science fair was conducted in 3stages which includes the school level and followed by state level and finally the national level.

About 67 Tamil Primary schools where a total of 350 students participated in this fair.This fair was officiated by YAD Datin Paduka Prof Dr Jamilah Bt Ariffin,Yand Dipertua of Juvita Organisation Malaysia.The Chief guest is YB Dato’ Dr S.Subramaniam,Ministry Of Human Resource for the closing and prize giving ceremony.

This is a huge and well planned programme which is for our indian young generation and we from the organising committee would like support in promoting our programme among the public.Thank You.

Putera MIC was formed in 2007 to develop Indian Youths in Malaysia in three broad areas – Education, human capital and a better lifestyle. Putera MIC was formed with an idea of a non-governmental organization. The Putera MIC wing is to enlist Malaysian Indians aged from 18 to 30 to assist in implementing programs benefiting the community on all frontiers. The formation of Putera MIC also is to give youths between the age of 18 to 30 to be more active in community works as many of them are keen but not given the opportunity or the road path.

Putera MIC has a strong belief in education and the use of ICT system as our moto says “Towards a great 3G Samrajayam Leaders”. As we see the current open world of globalization and the wide use of ICT, we in Putera MIC feel that all our youths should also be excellent in the use of the ICT systems. Putera MIC currently has 3,500 members who are mainly undergraduates in many fields in Malaysia and those who are pursuing degrees in various chapters in the world like Indonesia, India, Russia, South Africa and Europe. Putera MIC has also set up International chapters in India, Indonesia, South Africa and also Russia.
